LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced that the promotion will return to Brazil in May to kick off the country’s biggest MMA weekend of the year. LFA 183 will be the sixteenth LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. This event will take place on the eve of UFC 301, which features UFC champion and LFA great Alexandre Pantoja defending his UFC flyweight title in the main event. This will also be the sixth LFA event to take place in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which is home to Brazil’s most famous city with an eponymous name. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of São Paulo and Pernambuco.

LFA 183: Cantanhede vs. Guimarães, presented by Esporte da Sorte, takes place Friday, May 3rd at the Complexo Ribalta in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The main event will feature a women’s strawweight showdown between top prospects Naizi “Malvada” Cantanhede and Yasmin Guimarães. The entire main card will be available worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS® at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

“We are excited to kick off the biggest MMA weekend in Brazil this year at LFA 183,” stated Soares. “LFA 183 is stacked with top up-and-coming talent and it takes place on the eve of UFC 301. LFA 183 will take place at the Complexo Ribalta and the following night UFC 301 will take place at the Farmasi Arena. These venues are located only 6 miles apart along the Lagoa de Jacarepaguá in Barra da Tijuca. The women will be in the marquee on Friday, May 3rd as top prospects Naizi Cantanhede and Yasmin Guimarães jumpstart an epic fight weekend in Rio de Janeiro!”

Cantanhede (7-0) announced her arrival in the LFA and to the world in a big way at LFA 175 in January. This happened when the top undefeated 25-year-old prospect handed Lany Silva the first loss of her career. Silva had just been crowned the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Female Fighter of the Year three weeks early after going 3-0 for the promotion in 2023. She was also the heavily favored fighter going into the bout. The wave of media attention and excitement surrounding Silva allowed Cantanhede to fly under the radar. “Malvada” had in fact signed with the LFA after collecting four professional titles. She had also just enjoyed a triumphant return to the sport in 2023, where she went 2-0 in MMA after being inactive for 5 and a half years. Now the proud Paraense from northern Brazil is looking to make an even bigger statement in her first LFA main event.

Guimarães (7-1) is a decorated MMA and Muay Thai fighter that has built her world-class skill set by competing around the globe. The 28-year-old has competed in both sports throughout Europe and the Middle East. In that time, she has competed twice for KSW, which is a leading MMA promotion in Europe. She has also competed and trained in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and her home country of Brazil. This includes challenging for the WBC Muay Thai super-bantamweight title. Now after competing around the world in multiple disciplines at flyweight and bantamweight, the proud Carioca is returning home to Rio de Janeiro to make her debut in the strawweight division. The LFA debut for Guimarães will be an incredible moment for the Rio native as she also gets to kick off the biggest MMA weekend of the year in her country.
